ALLEN PARK – After a heartbreaking game on the road last week, the Detroit Lions will open the regular season at Ford Field against the Los Angeles Chargers.
The Lions are in the category of 3-point underdogs on Sunday afternoon. Detroit enters 0-0-1 while Los Angeles is 1-0 after a 30-24 victory in overtime against the Colts of Indianapolis. Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford will make his 130th consecutive start, while Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers will make his 210th appearance.

Tight Beginner Lions T.J. Hockenson will be looking to pick up where he stopped during his NFL debut. Hockenson scored six catches for 131 yards and one touchdown, allowing the new scorer to receive yards in a tight game for his debut. Despite this performance, the Lions managed an 18-point lead in the fourth quarter, but managed to save 27-27 with the Cardinals in the first week.
The Chargers nearly lost a 15-point lead in the second half against the Colts at home, but running back Austin Ekeler suspended the game in overtime with his third touchdown. It will miss several essential pieces on both sides of the ball during the second week. Right-winger Hunter Henry is absent, running back Melvin Gordon stands firm in the hope of a new contract, Derwin James is in the injured reserve and Left-winger Russell Okung is absent for cause blood clots, among others.
