Over the years, Kristine Johnson of CBS2 had the opportunity to visit the huge real estate business and see how it all came about. Last week, she had one last look while the final touch was put in place.

Hudson Yards, with 18 million square feet of commercial and residential space and 14 acres of gardens and parks, all built at the top of the Long Island Rail Road Yard, remained active throughout the construction.
"It was like an open-heart operation, a steel swing and a real collaboration with the railroad," said resident Jay Cross. "There was a lot of structural gymnastics."
The result is what developers call a totally sustainable neighborhood.
The concept of the Hudson Yards team was to create a space where New Yorkers can work, live and play, all in luxury, if you can afford it.
With condominium costs ranging from about $ 3 million up to $ 32 million, the development has sparked criticism for being a commercial center for the wealthy.
"As part of this development, we are committed to building or preserving approximately 1,100 affordable housing units," said Blau.
But this new neighborhood, they say, will create new opportunities and jobs for all New Yorkers.
"When you enter an office building here at Hudson Yards, you simply slip your hand and you are in it," said Cross.
Coach companies in L'Oréal have moved their offices to the site and more than 100 retailers and restaurants have settled.
"It's an extremely unique shopping experience," said Ottensoser. "The ease you get by shopping online is extremely important and all of our retailers have it integrated into their stores."
"They really bought something new and different," Cross said.
A performing arts center called "The Shed", built with a sunroof, a public square and gardens, also houses the "Vessel", a bee-shaped structure designed for visitors to climb. , free.
"This is really the first center for all the arts, for all audiences," said Alex Poot.
"It's going to be in New York what the Eiffel Tower is in Paris," said Blau about the ship.
