Firefox Lockbox, Mozilla's free password manager, launches on Android – TechCrunch

Mozilla's free password manager, designed for users of the Firefox web browser, officially arrives today on Android. The stand-alone application, called Firefox Lockbox, provides users with a simple, or very simple, way to access their login credentials already saved in their Firefox browser from their mobile device.

The application is far from being as developed as password managers like 1Password, Dashlane, LastPass and others because it lacks common features such as the ability to add, modify or modify delete passwords. suggest complex passwords; or notify you of potentially compromised passwords resulting from data breaches, among others.

However, the application is free – and if you already use the Firefox browser, it's at least a safer alternative than writing your passwords in an unprotected notebook application, for example. And you can choose to activate Lockbox as an auto-typing service on Android.

But the application is really just a companion to Firefox. Passwords in Lockbox securely synchronize with the application from the Firefox browser – they are not entered manually. For security reasons, the application can be locked with facial recognition or fingerprint (depending on the device's support). Passwords are also encrypted so that Mozilla can not read your data, explains the FAQ.

Firefox Lockbox is one of the many projects developed by Mozilla as part of its now-closed flight test program. In just a few years, the program had allowed the organization to test more experimental features, some of which were moving towards official products, such as the recently launched file sharing application, Firefox Send.

Other program tabs, including the Firefox Color, Side View, Firefox Notes, Price Tracking, and Email tabs, remain available, but are no longer actively expanded beyond the occasional maintenance releases. Mozilla is currently focusing on its suite of "privacy-friendly" solutions, not its other practical utilities.

According to Mozilla, Lockbox has been downloaded more than 50,000 times on iOS before the current launch of Android.

The Android version is available for free download on Google Play.
