Fires force evacuations in the Santa Cruz Mountains near Boulder Creek

Cal Fire on Tuesday evening expanded its evacuation orders for communities in Santa Cruz County near Boulder Creek due to the wildfires.

Word got out around 7:30 p.m. for residents along Waterman Gap Loop, Upper 236, Boulder Creek Golf Course, Heartwood Hill, Lodge Road, the community of Little Basin and Kings Highway, Lower and Upper China Grade, Lower Jamison Creek, Gallon Heights, Fallen Leaf District and Foxglove Lane to exit south along Highway 236 toward Boulder Creek before taking Highway 9 south to Santa Cruz.

Residents along the Saratoga Toll Road, San Lorenzo Park, Riverside Grove community of Teilh Drive and Wildwood Road were to evacuate north on Route 9 toward Santa Clara County.

Officials earlier in the evening called for evacuations in southern San Mateo County.

In a statement, Cal Fire officials said the fires, known as the CZU August Lightning Complex, had spread to around 1,000 acres with zero containment as of 5:45 p.m.
