For Friday’s “first call”, Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Chase Claypool can’t get out of his own way. The Steelers may have to fight to keep Matt Canada on the staff. And tackle Zach Banner seems optimistic about his future in Pittsburgh.
All that and some college basketball news too.
Double
Steelers wide receiver Chase Claypool doubles his criticism of the Cleveland Browns.
The Browns players hit back at Claypool after saying the Browns would be “cheered” by Kansas City this weekend. Even after the Browns “cheered” the Steelers 48-37 on Sunday.
Despite being called out by the Cleveland locker room, Claypool went on DAZN Canada and substantiated his statements.
“I think if the Browns had won with more class I wouldn’t have been so salty about it, but they made fun of JuJu during the game and after the game it didn’t suit me,” Claypool said. . “They were just super classless, against JuJu, towards JuJu, which they were saying on the pitch towards the end of the match. I’m not going to have any respect for a team that doesn’t respect us.
He hadn’t finished.
“They can enjoy the win and another week of football, but they’ll be on the couch right next to me next week, so it’s okay.”
Yep! There is the kicker. Here. Take a look for yourself.

This interview was published on Wednesday. But Claypool calls him “old”. Although it was obviously conducted after his initial comments Monday and the Browns’ responses that followed. So how “old” can he be?
And now he wishes Cleveland the best of luck.
It’s an OLD interview that happens right after the fact. Talked to friends about browns and that’s all the love! Hoping that nothing but the best for the rest of the playoffs! Go represent the division 😝🤙🏾 https://t.co/GuQJWHeB2U

I don’t know what they call it in Canada, Chase. But it looks to me like you’re trying to put the toothpaste back in the tube, eh?
Return banner?
At least one pending Steelers free agent enters the free market with optimism about his future in Pittsburgh.
This appears to be the case based on this tweet from the Steelers taking on Zach Banner.
Best Exit Interview Ever… Back to Work…

Banner won the starting position on the right after a training camp battle with Chuks Okorafor. But Banner suffered an ACL injury in Week 1 against the New York Giants. This kept him out for the rest of the season.
Banner also took the time to thank retired tight ends coach James Daniel.
The best trainer I have ever worked with. He demanded heart and supported those who loved and respected the game.
He challenged me and I responded. And I was able to tell him that I loved him for it on his glorious day or his retirement.
I told him, “I’ll make you a proud coach.”

Daniel, 67, joined the Steelers in 2004. Former Steelers head coach Bill Cowher hired him. Mike Tomlin kept him on staff when he became head coach in 2007.
From Canada to Florida?
Many wonder if Steelers quarterback coach Matt Canada will replace fallen offensive coordinator Randy Fichtner.
If that happens, there may first be a bidding war with the Miami Dolphins. ESPN’s Cameron Wolfe reports that Canada is a candidate to become the new offensive coordinator with the Dolphins.

If I’m in Canada, I take the Dolphins job if the salaries are commensurate. The Steelers are a declining team. The Dolphins are a team on the rise. Many of his plans for misdirection and movement will be more transferable to a young quarterback recently retired from college at Tua Tagovailoa than to an older, established pocket man like Ben Roethlisberger.
And while Roethlisberger never seemed to have much of a personal static towards Canada – as he did towards Todd Haley – he didn’t seem really interested in embracing many Canadian philosophies.
You saw a lot of offensive influence from Canada at the start of the season. But he passed out quickly.
Staying in Pittsburgh as it is today would be an insane task for Canada. It would be nothing more than a bridge between Fichtner and Roethlisberger’s retirement after the end of 2021.
And if the Steelers crash – which I expect – Canada could be alone in Pittsburgh as a coordinator, perhaps with Tomlin also coming out in 2021.
Take the job to Miami if you can get it, Matt. Better fit. Best time. Better future.
Moving
According to Mike DeCourcy of The Sporting News, the Atlantic 10 tournament will not be held in Brooklyn as planned.
The Atlantic 10 will be moving its tournament from Barclays Center in Brooklyn to one of its member campuses – although they have yet to decide which one.

Many of those who follow Duquesne immediately wondered if the venue could be moved to Pittsburgh. Maybe at the new UPMC Chuck Cooper Field House if it’s completed on time? Maybe PPG Paints Arena?
Do not hold your breath. Given that Pennsylvania typically shies away from entertaining events on 19 occasions as New York, such a move would hardly make political sense. Even if the virus is better contained and the vaccine is widely distributed by then.
Additionally, Duquesne might not want to host an important event like this in his new building if he hasn’t even been able to fix the issues in the facility for a full season of Dukes basketball. first.
However, there is a hole in PPG Paints Arena, at least in terms of the Penguins’ schedule. The pens are on the road this weekend. They are in Buffalo. Their last home game before the tournament is Tuesday, March 9 against the New York Rangers. And the next one is not scheduled until Monday, March 15 against the Boston Bruins.
But I still bet on the UD Arena in Dayton.
