The first sequence of Call of Duty: The New Warzone Map was revealed in a live commercial for the game’s next season.

VGC can confirm that the work in progress live action spot, which was first shared by the Twitter account Walk on eggshells, is genuine and shows clips of the new 1980s map which we believe will replace Verdansk at the end of the current season, with an in-game event marking the transition on April 22.

The images show Cold War-era monuments replacing points of interest in Verdansk, including a stadium under construction and an aqueduct replacing the dam.

The video also shows an area of mine shafts and what appears to be the Duga-2 radar featured in Black Ops Cold War’s Ashes to Ashes campaign mission.

As VGC first reported in February, at the end of Black Ops Cold War and Warzone Season 2, the battle royale game will finally move to the new map.

The change will be marked by an explosive in-game event designed to make Warzone’s narrative transition from the era of modern warfare to a setting more in line with the latest version of the premium series.

The nuclear warheads recently discovered on the Warzone map will be used to trigger the redesign, much like Fortnite used an in-game event to jump to Chapter 2, with the zombies introduced in the final season starting the countdown.

It took a long time to redesign the Warzone map. Originally, Verdansk’s reboot in the 1980s was to coincide more closely with the release of Black Ops Cold War last November, but several factors saw its launch approaching the game’s first anniversary in March 2021.

With another premium Call of Duty game slated for release later this year – which we believe is a new Sledgehammer title set during WWII – Warzone likely won’t see a similar revamp coincide with this game until at least. 2022, if so. all.

It’s also very possible that Warzone could ignore WWII entirely, in terms of the map redesign, and instead focus on coinciding with the game of 2022.

The Cold War Ashes to Ashes map (pictured) appears to appear in the new Warzone map.

It is understood that Sledgehammer’s new game will see a return to the Modern Warfare 2019 engine, “ IW8, ” which also powers Warzone, after last year’s Cold War switched to an improved version of Black Ops technology. 4 from Treyarch.

Modern Warfare / Warzone and Black Ops Cold War share the underlying technology and tools, but otherwise much of the engine used for Cold War dates back to 2015 Black Ops 3.

Last year, sources told VGC that Activision has no plans to slow down its premium versions of Call of Duty, which will continue to be created under the leadership of Treyarch, Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer.

Warzone is seen as a third pillar alongside Call of Duty Mobile and future full-priced versions, which will continue to offer a “ premium ” set of Campaign, Multiplayer, and Zombies / Spec Ops modes in the future.

Given the huge popularity of the free-to-play game, combined with the rich history of the Call of Duty franchise, it makes sense that Warzone continually evolves with the content of each premium entry, rather than creating a different battle royale for each sub. marine. -Mark.
