We’ve seen several reviews of the two new iPhones on media sites, but now regular customers have the smaller and larger iPhones in hand and are sharing their opinions on the device on the. MacRumors forums. For those who are waiting for their own ‌iPhone‌ or considering making a purchase, the impressions of regular consumers provide useful information.

iPhone 12 mini

MacRumors The elephantnut reader had a long list of thoughts to share. The flat edges are a “welcome departure” from the rounded edges, but the design gives the phone a thicker look and feel. The color white is “elegant but cute”, and more of a warm white than a cool white.

The screen is a fantastic size. While I wouldn’t say it’s comfortable to reach the edges, it’s much easier to do compared to 5.8 “iPhones. The lighter weight allows the iPhone to slide over your hand though you have smaller hands.

True Tone looks a bit more aggressive than on my ‌iPhone‌ 8. Compared to an OLED ‌iPhone‌ X, my 12 Mini has a more yellow / green cast with True Tone off, and is significantly more yellow with True Tone on.

MacRumors Reader Hoobaman shared some helpful photos of the iPhone 12‌ mini in a leather case for those wondering what the new leather cases look like.

MacRumors reader pinchies said the size is nice and allows one-handed typing, but accessing the control center “still requires shuffling”. The screen is darker than the iPhone 11’s, and it’s not as sharp as expected. MacRumors reader skyhawkmatthew disagreed with the sharpness, however, and said that “the color and sharpness on the screen is superb.”

2016 iPhone SE owner Klasma said the iPhone 12 mini was both heavier and larger than expected, and not as “handy” as the SE when it came to chassis size.

Other information from iPhone 12 mini owners:

  • It’s so small and light it feels like you’re in the air
  • The notch eats up too much of the screen compared to the rest of the ‌iPhone 12‌ range
  • The speakers sound much better compared to older iPhones, but the sound is “thinner” than the iPhone 11 with less bass
  • The screws on the bottom of the mini are not color matched to the device
  • The screen is warmer than older iPhones
  • The iPhone 12‌ mini is barely noticeable in a pocket

iPhone 12 Pro Max

MacRumors The Vengapat9 player made their ‌iPhone 12 Pro‌ due to battery life issues and chose the iPhone 12 Pro‌ Max thing with its bigger battery. He says the phone is “as big as hell” and “a little bit bigger”, with the bigger screen showing more information “even better”.

MacRumors the Gtg456x reader likes the larger screen size and says it “doesn’t look that big”.

I had debated between the Pro and the Pro Max. I have had an ‌iPhone‌ X for 3 years, but before that I had a 7 Plus and missed having a big screen for the last few years, but worried about how many people were scared of the size and weight of the 12 Pro Max. Well the 12 Pro Max arrived today, and let me tell you, it was the right decision! After only using it for 30 minutes, I looked at my ‌iPhone‌ X for something and MY GOD this screen looks small now. How the hell did I use it for 3 years? It honestly doesn’t even sound that big. Looks pretty much the same as all the big phones of the past decade.

MacRumors reader Ryancgray said the stabilization of video recording is “amazing”, while MacRumors player lukeoneill90 stated that the iPhone 12 Pro‌ Max is “super fast” with quality speakers.

Other information from owners of iPhone 12 Pro‌ Max:

  • The gold color is beautiful and elegant
  • Face ID is the same as on 11 Pro Max
  • Weight is similar to 11 Pro Max
  • Feels stronger and more secure than 11 Pro Max
  • HDR video recording is amazing, it looks very real and vibrant
  • It’s huge and can take a while to get used to
