First-round pick Darnell Savage signs rookie deal with Packers

Darnell Savage is quick on the field, and fast with a pen, apparently.

The Green Bay Packers' first-round pick accepted his rookie contract on Thursday, becoming the first of 32 NFL first-round picks in 2019 to complete an agreement, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

The Packers swapped nine places in the first round for Savage, who ran a 40-yard, 4.36-second run from Maryland.

Last year, the Packers had not agreed to negotiate with first-round pick Jaire Alexander before May 15.

The Savage agreement is for four years and includes a fifth-year team option, as do all first-round contracts since the new ABC in 2011.

Over the Cap predicted that the 21st choice would win a $ 12.5 million four-year contract, with a signing bonus of over $ 7 million. The NFL put in place a paycheck for recruits in 2011, simplifying the signing process for draft picks.

The Packers start the minicamp rookie on Friday.
