The Fitbit Charge 5 has just been announced, after a short period of leaks and rumors before its launch. That’s a pretty big departure from the rest of the company’s other offerings, and it’s the first in the Charge series to feature a color display. The company says it offers up to seven days of battery life depending on use, and that it also comes with six months of Fitbit premium.
The Fitbit Charge 5 emphasizes health features according to Google, and that seems to be its biggest selling point. There’s a new Daily Prep experience (which will also be available on some of the company’s older devices) that will help educate you on the type of fitness you’re capable of that day. The company claims that each morning you will be given a score based on your physical fatigue (activity), heart rate variability (HRV), and recent sleep. You’ll also get an analysis of what impacted your score and suggestions like an Active Zone minute recommended target goal that helps you plan your workouts for the day.
Stress is also the focus of the Fitbit Charge 5. The company claims that you’ll get a stress management score in the Fitbit app every morning to help you understand whether or not you need to take a break. Fitbit Premium also gives you access to 300 meditation and mindfulness sessions from brands and experts.
Other features including detection of changes in skin temperature, SpO2 reading and respiratory rate. There is also 24/7 heart rate monitoring and an ECG that can help detect AFib, a potentially dangerous cardiac arrhythmia known as atrial fibrillation. The Fitbit Charge 5 costs $ 179.95 and pre-orders begin today on the company’s website and at select global retailers. It will be available worldwide later this fall. There are three colors of stainless steel with matching bands and other bands sold separately as well.
