Police north of St. Louis said Saturday that it appeared that five people had been murdered during the night.

Their bodies were discovered Saturday afternoon in an apartment in St. Louis County, an unincorporated person, when someone who was at the residence Friday night came back and found the knowledge of the dead , said St. Louis County police at a press conference.

"One of the people who was with them last night came back around noon today, and that's when the five people were discovered," said Tracy Panus. .

Authorities would not say how the five would have been killed, but Panus said, "We can say they're homicides, it's definitely a homicide at this point."

The authorities said that the complex where the bodies were found contains several embedded units, but it was not clear for now if these five people were in such an apartment.

"Many of them are released, but not all I understand," said Chief Jon Belmar.

The identity of the victims has not yet been unveiled.

"We have information coming in," said Belmar, "but we need help from the public in this case."
