Five people from the same Texan family arrested in connection with the Capitol riot

Five members of a Texan family were arrested Tuesday in connection with the Jan.6 attack on the United States Capitol, the largest family group apprehended in the deadly insurgency.

The five family members – Thomas and Dawn Munn, and three of their children, Kristi, Joshua and Kayli, were all apprehended on Tuesday and charged with illegally entering the Capitol and engaging in disorderly behavior, among others.

Each has been charged with four counts of misdemeanor, according to a statement from the US Department of Justice.

The Munn family traveled together from Borger, Texas to Washington, DC, to participate in the “Stop the Steal” rally which was held in front of a group of alumni. They gained access to the Capitol on January 6 by climbing through a window that had been damaged.

Court documents have revealed that a relative of Kristi Munn’s fiancé informed authorities of the family’s involvement and sent screenshots of his social media posts to law enforcement, according to NBC News .

After the uprising, Kristi Munn reportedly wrote on Facebook that she had been active in the riot.

“Keep just this little information on the DL [down low] for now, ”she wrote in the post.

In another, Kristi wrote that “tear gas tastes like freedom,” according to the Washington Post. When asked by a commentator if she knew this from experience, she wrote: “I know it now”.

Another family member was involved, but they are minors and therefore were not apprehended.
