Five Perspectives That Could Be Next On Ohio State’s List of 2022 Recruitment Promotion Commitments

Two weeks ago, we detailed the main remaining positional needs in the 2022 class after the Buckeyes landed 10 of the nation’s top talent in the cycle.

We also took a look at the top 10 remaining in-class targets last week, which is a star-studded list of five stars, top players, and underrated players.

But what are the prospects most likely in the 2022 cycle to engage in the Buckeyes next? We try to predict who will be most likely to join the class. As a caveat, many of these potential engagements (and anyone else not on that list) largely depend on whether or not the player can make it to campus for a spring or summer visit.

In no particular order, except for that first guy…

Kyion Grayes

We’ve spent so much time discussing Grayes’ big visit this weekend and the likelihood that we think he’ll commit to the Buckeyes. In fact, we would be shocked if that didn’t happen, so we won’t beat a dead horse here.

Ohio State already has five-star Caleb Burton in the fold, and if they add Grayes, that will give Brian Hartline a great duo to start the class. (And just add to how the Buckeyes stacked the wide receiver position in the 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022 cycles.)

Kojo Antwi is the next prime-time player the Buckeyes will be working on, although I have long said it would be very difficult for them to pull him out of the SEC country, with Georgia also having a great position on him. . Two other prime targets are Kaleb Brown and CJ Williams.

Damari alston

The four-star Georgia running back is quite upset (and rightly so) that tours (of the non-self-guided variety) have again been pushed back to at least June 1. 16 in what was shaping up to be the Buckeye Bash 2.0 led by CJ Hicks / Dasan McCullough (our nickname, patent pending). This visit would have contributed significantly to his potential engagement in the state of Ohio. Alas.

Alston is still likely to take tours before making his decision, but now he’ll have to take a self-guided tour of the state of Ohio or any campus he chooses if he wants to visit in the spring. I expect him to delay his decision until June 1, but if he makes it to Columbus in the next two or three months I would put on a personal crystal ball for Tony Alford to land one of its best. targets at position.

Austin jordan

Jordan, a four-star cornerback in Class 2022 at Texas powerhouse Ryan High School, recently placed the Buckeyes in his top 10.

I think the state of Ohio will be waiting for Jordan to show them a little more with his off-season gang and senior season gang and get to know him more. But I think the state of Ohio is near the top of Jordan’s list, and with the Buckeyes seemingly out of the game for Will Johnson and Denver Harris, maybe they do a bigger push for Jordan. and two other turns that I like in this class in Toriano. Pride and Ryan Turner.

Christen miller

Like Antwi, winning that prospect from Peach State will be tough for the Buckeyes, especially since they were late in making an offer. That said, the four-star defensive tackle from Cedar Grove, Georgia put Larry Johnson and Co. in a final list of schools that were in the top four before making it into the top five to include the State of the ‘Ohio.

I put Miller on this list in part because he’s the only one of those five to have a public engagement date, and that date (April 4) is just around the corner. I wouldn’t be surprised if he chose to push this off to give the state of Ohio more time to establish a relationship with him and make a few more visits. The Bulldogs remain in charge, but we’ll see if Day, Johnson and area scout Al Washington can take a big step forward here.

Aliou Bah

Rumors are that the three-star offensive tackle from IMG Academy (Florida) – who was recently transferred to the Bradenton center from defensive end Buckeye Cormontae Hamilton’s alma mater, Whitehaven (Memphis) – wants to lock his name. in the classroom. But there may be delays until the tours can take place.

If Bah adds “Buckeye commit” next to his name, it would give Greg Studrawa and Kennedy Cook a huge player (6ft 6in, 325lb) to add to the crease in the program’s most needed remaining in the class. He would also be a type of development prospect, however, and the Buckeyes will still need to add a top guy to the job. It starts with Kiyaunta Goodwin and continues with guys like Zach Rice and Kam Dewberry.

Bonus: Luke Montgomery, Brenan Vernon

Pickerington Central’s Sonny Styles isn’t on this list because I think there’s more work to be done there than with Ohio’s other top players, Montgomery and Vernon, in the 2023 class.

But Findlay’s offensive line prospect Montgomery, a likely top 150 player (the top 150 would be in the low end given his huge potential), and Vernon, a sure-fire five-star defensive end from Mentor, look alike. at this point to end up like Buckeyes. At one point on the road, that is.

“I love the state of Ohio,” said Montgomery Eleven warriors shortly after the Ohio State offered last week. “Coach Stud, he grew up playing 20 minutes away from me at Fostoria. I was born in Columbus. I lived there for about a year and still have family in Columbus. I know the area very well. I go there a lot, I love the campus, and obviously there are a lot of academics there as well.

Vernon, meanwhile, compares himself to Nick Bosa and is expected to be next in the long line of defensive ends of studs developed by Johnson. Once again, as with Pickerington North’s five-star Jack Sawyer in the 2021 round, the Buckeyes have a top notch defensive end in their backyard that has grown up loving the scarlet and gray.

Ohio has an absolutely loaded defensive class in 2023, led by potential five-star safety Styles, Vernon and four-star linebacker / safety Trevor Carter from Ironton. Montgomery would also be included in that squad if he wanted to maintain the defensive position he played in for Findlay before moving on to attacking tackle this offseason.

Either way, Montgomery and Vernon will end up (in my prediction) giving Ohio State a huge double in the State, and if the Buckeyes add styles to this group, there won’t be absolutely no abandonment for the program under the conditions of recruitment of the best national talents of the 2021 and 2022 classes.
