Most decisions related to the file have already been made. A handful may depend on tonight's performance, both for the Raiders' lineup and for their training team. And, of course, they can show themselves enough so that, even if they are cut off, another team picks them up from the waiver thread.
In the absence of established players in the game, there are five players to watch who still have a lot to fight.
Johnathan Cooper
Gruden moves the usual left guard from the right for this match. It would seem like a move to see if Cooper can be the team's reserve keeper for the first two games of the season. This means that Denzelle Good and Jordan Devey will be substitutes for Richie Incognito (suspension of 2 games) and Gabe Jackson (knee injury). If Bon, Devey or Rodney Hudson were to fall, they want to know if Cooper can replace one or the other of the guard posts. Devey would move to the center if Hudson were to be replaced. If Cooper can not do it, the best option would probably be Denver Kirkland.
David Sharpe
Sharpe may have already blocked the job of reserve tackle. But just in case, he can not afford a disappointment in this game. After all, if Sharpe is part of the team, it probably means giving up on Brandon Parker and giving up on a recent third-round pick is not a slim decision. If Sharpe makes a face, and especially if Parker shows progress, the Raiders could choose their last choice. Sharpe was a fourth round pick, but keep in mind that it was for the previous scheme.
Anthony Rush
Rush is another guy who threatens to drop a project in 2018. What he'll be putting on the movie will be even more important to other teams than the Raiders. They would like nothing more than to keep Rush and the 2018 second round pick, P.J. Hall, but that might not be an option. It already seems that Rush will have little chance to release the waivers to get the training team, but if it bounces as it did in the preliminary game, the rest of the NFL will take it into account – it's they have not done it already – and the Raiders will know that they have to keep it on the list or lose it completely.
Jason Cabinda
Cabinda became one of Gruden's favorites last year as an unprepared rookie. He was the first substitute of the team at the central linebacker behind Vontaze Burfict. Whether it remains or not depends on whether it's made it indispensable. His main competition is Marquel Lee, who played at the center, but was moved to the outside. Both players are in their second season in Paul Guenther's defense. Lee is an exceptional player who plays on his behalf. But it is more difficult to replace a linebacker late in the game. Guenther would need someone who could step in immediately and lead the defense if Burfict was injured, or more likely he was suspended. He is a little suspended. It does not matter if Cabinda can not perform at a reasonably high level. He missed a tackle on a 20-yard display during last week's game, but had a very good game otherwise. He must continue.
Rico Gafford
The quick cornerback shot receiver, made some games this preseason. He caught a 59-yard long bomb during the second week and played in the heads-up to recover a fumble to give the Raiders the win back last week. He stayed in the Raiders practice squad last season because he is an excellent athlete. He may have already earned a spot on the Raiders practice team, but if he plays well again, he may not have the chance to dispute a waiver.
