Five-star playmaker Daishen Nix signed on Tuesday to UCLA, giving new head coach Mick Cronin his first-ever rookie since the Bruins took over.

Nix's coach at Trinity International School (Nevada), Greg Lockridge, confirmed the news to ESPN.

Nix, a 6-foot-5 goalkeeper from Las Vegas, had just released his last five schools Monday night. UCLA was on the list, alongside Kentucky, Maryland, Alabama and Kansas. The Bruins have been seen as the undisputed leader of the commitment made by Nix throughout the summer. He made an official visit to UCLA last weekend.

N ° 5 of the ESPN 100 Top Prospects for 2020, Nix was one of the most impressive players of spring and summer. He is an elite smuggler and also showed an improvement in his shot at the NBPA Top 100 camp in June, making 45.5% of his attempts by 3 points.

Nix is Cronin's first commitment since he was appointed in early April, the new UCLA coach. The Bruins kept Jaime Jaquez and Jake Kyman in the 2019 fold after both wings signed up for Steve Alford, but they did not make a late addition in the spring.

Nix is only the fifth five-star player engaged in the 2020 category, giving UCLA a good start to the season of official visits. The Bruins were finalists for Ziaire Williams and five-star Joshua Christopher, as well as for the hopes of the 100th ESPN, Mark Williams and Andre Jackson. Mady Sissoko, a great ESPN 100 man, also made an official visit to UCLA in early June.
