FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Redshirt junior right-handed pitcher Isaiah Campbell and junior player Dominic Fletcher were the first Razorbacks in the 2019 Major League Baseball (MLB) draft Monday night. The duo was selected twice in round B of the competition, while Fletcher was selected by Arizona, number 75 overall, and Campbell by Seattle, number 76, compared to.

Fletcher and Campbell are the 15th and 16th Razorbacks to take in the first three rounds of the repechage since 2010. Campbell is the sixth pitcher since 2013, while Fletcher is the first player to have been so high since Andrew Benintendi went on the first lap to Boston in 2015.

Arkansas's top two picks in the last two projects were right-hander Trevor Stephan, who had gone on to the third round at the New York Yankees in 2017 as No. 92.North Dakota overall pick and Blaine Knight, who went in 2018 to the Baltimore Orioles in the third round as 84th to choose.

With Monday's selections, Arkansas has had at least one player selected in each of the last 45 drafts of the MLB dating back to 1975. In addition, 90 players have been drafted at least once under Dave Van Horn since he's became head coach in 2003.

Over the last three seasons, Fletcher has shown why he was one of the nation's top players, both in attack and defense. In 2019, alone, Fletcher had his best year at the plate, hitting .312 with 77 hits, 23 doubles and 10 home runs, all while .526 slogging. All these numbers are the best in career, since he has at least 10 circuits each year and is currently the leader of SEC in doubles with 61 games.

Fletcher is a .297 career hitter for the Razorbacks and has 218 hits, 32 home runs and 142 RBIs in 189 games in Arkansas. He needs 11 hits, a home run and 17 RBIs to make their way into the Arkansas career charts in each of these categories. Only four Razorbacks are in the top 10 of the three offensive categories (Ryan Lundquist, Danny Hamblin, Greg D'Alexander and Jeff King).

Defensively, there is perhaps no better center player than Fletcher, who has made only nine errors in three years (0.981) and has seven assists. This year, he made two errors in total on 162 occasions.

Last year, Campbell was selected as a redshirt student by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (24th, No. 721), but chose to return to Fayetteville for his fourth year. He had one of the biggest jumps of all nation pitchers.

The native of Olathe, Kansas, recorded an 11-1 record this year and helped the Hogs compete for the second time in a row at the NCAA Super Regional, their eighth top appearance in the US. history of the school. He was recently named All-American by Collegiate Baseball Magazine and showed his All-American talent at the NCAA Regional Championship last week with an outstanding run in eight innings and a point against the TCU to place the Hogs in the regional final .

Campbell clocked a best time of 2.27 as a pitcher thrower with 40 or more heats and 108 strikers in more than 103 innings, all of which are career-best. Campbell broke the 100-goal mark in his SEC tournament debut and now ranks ninth all-time in the single season charts of Arkansas with 108 strikeouts.

During his career, Campbell has made 48 appearances on the mound since 2016, including 39 in his debut. He averaged 3.29 in 205 innings and kept his opponents at a batting average of 0.232. Last week, in his debut against the TCU at the regional level, Campbell made 200 career shootouts, becoming the sixth Van Horn Razorback with 200 or more career shoot-offs.

The second day of the project will start on Tuesday on MLB.com. Rounds 3 to 10 will be conducted, followed by rounds 11 to 40 on Wednesday, which will be the last day of the draft. All selections can be followed on MLB.com.
