OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) – Mariners manager Scott Servais saved the race differential discussion for another day, instead referring to Seattle’s “fun differential”.

Mitch Moreland hit an RBI single for Oakland in the first before Jarred Kelenic tied it at 1 with a single in the second. Kelenic also passed Murphy at home in the eighth and scored on Dylan Moore’s single.

Elvis Andrus netted a brace with two strikeouts in the seventh and Mark Canha walked to chase Flexen, but Oakland came out empty. Starling Marte hit a high volley against Drew Steckenrider, who got his sixth save.

The A’s, who have made the playoffs for the past three seasons, are trying to recapture the familiar fun they’ve known so well.

Oakland lost its fourth game in a row – all but Tuesday’s result by two points or less – and eighth in 10 after a 12-3 streak.

“We are putting too much pressure on all facets that we have at the moment. There is not much room for error, ”said manager Bob Melvin. “It was a difficult period that we went through. We didn’t look well today. We have lost a few close games here recently. We have to flip the switch and start playing the way we do. We’re generally on the other side of these games. And this is the wrong time to enter a crisis, the wrong time to enter a team crisis. We will find out.

The Mariners’ 5-3 win on Monday was their 30th comeback victory and their second straight rally in the ninth to win.

“I’ve never been on a team that did it so often late in games,” manager Scott Servais said, noting that he wanted Seattle to score a few points earlier.

“Frankly that would make everyone’s life a little bit easier, but we’re in the entertainment business, why not make it interesting, right? “

A day after the first game in the series drew 4,140 fans, Tuesday’s ticket sales were 4,508.

Plastic surgeon Dr Peter Revenaugh of Rush Medical Center performed the operation to stabilize three fractured cheekbones while removing other small fractured bones. The team said “Chris is stable and resting comfortably and will have follow-up appointments when he arrives in Oakland,” which should be later this week. “Very successful so that’s great news,” said manager Bob Melvin. “All the little nuances that we probably knew in there all unfolded beautifully, extracted fragments, all. So I think it went exceptionally well and everyone is feeling good about it.

Seattle replaced right-hander Robert Dugger outright at Triple-A Tacoma after being designated for an assignment on Sunday.

FOLLOWING

Seattle is on leave on Wednesday and Yusei Kikuchi (7-7, 4.22 ERA) is set to start the series opener at home against Kansas City on Thursday night. He is looking to achieve a three-winless start streak and avoid back-to-back losing starts for the second time in 2021.

After Oakland’s day off, RHP James Kaprielian (7-4, 3.25 ERA) takes the mound for the A’s after going 2-0 with a 3.31 ERA in three starts since leaving the list of wounded.
