HOOVER, Alabama – Former Tennessee linebacker Henry To’o To’o signed up for Alabama in early May, adding another talented piece to an already impressive Crimson Tide defense.
Two months later, two of his Knoxville teammates described the kind of player Alabama had in To’o To’o. But the broad Velus Jones Jr. said UA is becoming an even better person.
“To’o is a great player,” Jones told SEC Media Days. “I heard about him when I was at USC and I know he also had cousins that I played with. He’s just a special player, but overall he “He’s an even better person, a really humble and down-to-earth person. You know what he’s capable of on Saturday. Overall he’s a great person, but on the pitch a great player too. I love this guy, he’s a great guy, a great player, can’t wait to see him on the pitch.
“I wish him the best. “
That was the sentiment of the two representatives of the Vols players – there is no grudge against their former teammate for transferring to inter-divisional rival Tennessee.
“Me and Henry are really cool,” defensive back Alontae Taylor said during SEC Media Days. “I’m excited for Henry. I talked to Henry throughout the process, and I just told him what made his family happy, everything that made him happy at the end of the day. So I’m excited for him, I stay connected with him. When the time comes we will go to Tuscaloosa and play them, and then in these lines we compete. But outside of these lines, we are still brothers.
To’o To’o, who spent the last two seasons in Tennessee, started 22 games for the Flights and led UT’s tackling defense in 2019 and 2020 before entering the transfer portal. Now he joins an UA defense where he is as experienced as the leader of his new position group, Christian Harris.
To’o To’o was the No.1 ranked player in 247Sports’ Top 100 College Football Transfers for the 2021 offseason, and he is now immediately eligible to prepare for the Crimson Tide this fall. As someone who performed alongside him, Taylor explained what To’o To’o does well.
“Henry has a lot of strengths,” Taylor said. “The biggest strength I would say is his ability to lead and his ability to adapt. I think it will be a perfect fit for the home in Alabama, and I’m thrilled for it. I just hope he continues to lead this team like he led our team while he was here.
