Florida cop says there is “weirdness” in Brian Laundrie case

Florida cops said they tried to keep tabs on Brian Laundrie before he escaped amid the investigation into Gabby Petito’s disappearance – but admitted there was a lot of “oddity” going on. regarding his case.

“We’ve said from the start that there are a lot of quirks here, a lot of things that just don’t make sense,” said the spokesperson for the North Port Police Department. Josh Taylor told NewsNation.

“I mean, your son comes out – now they say a Monday – to report it on a Friday and then not figure out what day it was,” Taylor said in an interview on Friday. “There are a lot of strange things out there. “

Laundrie, 23, disappeared from the family home in North Port last month after his parents claimed he went for a hike in the 25,000-acre Carlton Reservation, which authorities have been searching since September 18.

His parents Chris and Roberta Laundrie first told the cops that their son left home on September 14, but they waited three days to report his disappearance despite the notoriety surrounding him.

Family lawyer Steven Bertolino last week said in a statement that the laundries got it wrong and said Brian actually left the house on September 13.

Brian had been wanted for questioning over Petito’s disappearance during the couple’s trip across the country – but had pleaded and refused to cooperate.

Brian had returned home without his 22-year-old girlfriend on September 1, nearly three weeks before Petito’s body was found at a Wyoming campsite on September 19.

Police have since come under fire for letting Brian – the only person of interest in the case – escape. But Taylor insisted the cops do what they could.

“What I will say to that is that we were doing everything we could within the law with the facts and the circumstances at the time,” he said. “What I’m going to say is that this is… something that we are working on to figure out how he got away.”

When asked if he thought Laundrie was still alive, Taylor replied, “It’s possible.”

“I certainly think it wouldn’t surprise me if he was,” he said. “It wouldn’t surprise me if he wasn’t. “
