After announcing last week that she would release daily reports on new cases of COVID-19 in Florida, Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried said the Florida Department of Health was withholding data from the weekend then as cases hit new records last week.

Fried, who announced in June that she would run for governor of the state of Florida, said in a tweet Monday that she would release new data on COVID-19 cases as soon as they were released by the “department. of the governor’s health “.

“We expect a major data dump on Florida’s COVID cases, hospitalizations and, tragically, deaths this weekend will be released by the [CDC] tomorrow,” Fried’s tweet said, in part.

The Florida Hospital Association released its daily count of hospitalized COVID-19 patients on Monday, with the number remaining above the 10,000 mark, at 10,389.

More than half of those hospitalized in Florida were between 25 and 55 years old, and more than 95% of them were unvaccinated.

The CDC website did not show any data from Florida from the last weekend of July through the first days of August, as of Monday, August 2.

Florida recorded its highest single-day total of new COVID-19 cases on Friday – 21,683 – according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

This is the first time that the state has not reported the number of daily cases. However, this is notable given that Florida accounted for 20% of all new cases in the United States on the most recent day data was available.
