Bauman and her grade 10 daughter have openly challenged the district mask’s mandate since its implementation earlier this month, according to WFOR-TV in Miami. The media reported that Bauman’s daughter refused to wear a mask to school and was turned away by the administration every day.
“I want to be able to go to school like everyone else but I can’t wear a mask, I can’t breathe and I want to have that choice,” Bauman’s daughter told CBS Wednesday morning before the incident.
Authorities said Bauman was again at the main entrance to the school on Wednesday morning, recording other students with his phone and “causing a disturbance.” Recognizing Bauman as a protester against the school board’s mask warrant, the school resources officer turned on his body-worn camera, according to the affidavit.
As Bauman continued to record, a passing student told him she did not want to be filmed, saying “I have enough for four days” before trying to grab the cell phone from Bauman’s hands, according to Bauman. authorities.

Bauman responded by pushing the student against a fence, grabbing her hand and twisting her arm “aggressively,” the affidavit reads. The school resource officer and security removed Bauman from the student and detained him.

“There was an incident today involving a student and the person you mentioned, which resulted in the Fort Lauderdale police intervening and the person being taken into custody,” the statement said.
