A Florida man who sent an SMS telling him that he was planning to shoot en masse and claiming that "100 killings would be fine" was stopped Friday, authorities said.

Tristan Scott Wix, of Daytona Beach, has been charged with threatening large-scale shootings after the Volusia County Sheriff was notified of the 25-year-old's texting of his plans to kill as many people as possible.

"A school is a weak target," writes Wix in one of the messages, claiming that he intended to shoot an open crowd and that he wanted to break the record of " more confirmed murders of all time ".

Wix wrote in messages that he wanted to die but that he was hoping to "have fun doing it". He also mentioned that he hoped to meet someone who would make him change his mind and make life more worthy to be experienced.

Authorities did not say who received Wix's message, but he wrote to someone saying he needed help to carry out the mass firing. The Volusia County Sheriff said he worked with several local departments to find Wix and arrested him Friday in a Winn-Dixie car park.

Wix told the detectives that he did not own any firearms, but that he was "fascinated" by the large-scale shootings. The sheriff's office announced that he was about to get a warrant to be able to access Wix's home. He is currently being held in a county jail without bail.

The arrests of Wix come just weeks after the mass shootings that killed more than 30 people in El Paso (Texas) and Dayton (Ohio), and after the FBI arrested a man in Las Vegas who threatened to shoot at LGBTQ bars and Jewish bars.
