According to the Saint Lucia County Sheriff's Office, 37-year-old Casey Lewis was forced out of jail on Thursday to be surprised by MPs robbing several cars in front of the prison.
CNN reports that the surveillance video showed that Lewis was watching cars and was opening the door of a silver vehicle, according to the affidavit. According to the report, Lewis entered the vehicle on the driver's side and stayed in the car for about two and a half minutes. While Lewis was in the parking lot, an officer approached him. He told the officer that he was "waiting for his girlfriend," according to the affidavit.
The officer who made the arrest stated in the affidavit that, when Lewis was approached, questioned and finally arrested, he handed the officer a brown paper bag containing elements of a vehicle. The items on offer included an iPhone 7, four packs of cigarettes, a lighter, a Visa debit card, a Florida driver's license and $ 547 in cash.
Lewis was reportedly jailed and released a second time on bail.
