A Florida lawyer is under investigation for attempting to illegally register to vote in the second round of the Georgia election and encouraging others to do the same, according to a local report.
Bill Price, of Panama City, reportedly filled out papers to vote in Paulding County, Ga., Using his brother’s address there – and swore in an affidavit that he was a resident of the ‘Peach State, election officials told WSB-TV.
“We clearly know that it is not [eligible to vote in Georgia]Paulding County Election Supervisor Deidre Holden told station.
The case came to light after a video was released showing Price telling members of the Bay County Republican Party in Florida to temporarily change their address in Georgia in order to vote for the GOP Senate candidates on January 5.
“We absolutely have to hold the Senate and we have to start fighting back, and we have to do whatever it takes,” Price said in the Facebook Live video that the outlet has since deleted.
“And if that means changing your address for the next two months, so be it,” he said, before declaring, “I do.” I’m moving to Georgia and I’m going to fight and I want you all to fight with me.
According to the report, Price then read his brother’s address to Hiram as the group wrote it down – and, when a woman asked, “Can we really register at this address?” he replied, “Of course.”
“It’s only for a few months,” Price reportedly said. “We will have buses leaving here, for Atlanta the day before January 5, and I may need you to help me get back to Florida on January 6.”
Temporarily relocating to Georgia to vote is a felony in the state, liable to be issued up to 10 years in prison or a fine of $ 100,000.
Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger confirmed to the outlet on Thursday that Price’s video was under investigation.
“Make no mistake, individuals who attempt to undermine the integrity of the Georgia election will be investigated and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,” Raffensperger said in a statement.
Holden, Paulding’s election supervisor, who is Republican, told the station that investigators reported Price’s attempted registration and shared the footage with her.
She said a meeting was scheduled for next week to stop Price’s alleged effort.
“What kind of message does he send to our children, grandchildren and neighbors that if you don’t win an election you can just go and steal one?” Holden asked. “And that is absolutely unacceptable here in the state of Georgia.”
Price, meanwhile, denied attempting to register in Georgia and claimed he was joking in the video in an email to the outlet.
“Thanks for contacting. I have not changed my registration on the electoral roll… ”he told the station.
In a phone call with Fox News, Price admitted he completed the online registration – but claimed he did so to expose Democrats who he said were trying to vote illegally.
“I wanted to see how easy it was to do it,” he told the store. “I’m not really moving to Georgia. I was joking.”
