CLEARWATER, Fla .– A Florida man crashed a stolen car through an airport fence and entered the cockpit of a Coast Guard plane before being arrested, investigators said on Saturday.

The suspect was identified by the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office as Herrera Hamilton Moreno, 36, who was jailed on Saturday on bail set at $ 24,150. Prison records did not indicate a lawyer for Moreno.

According to the Sheriff’s Department, MPs at St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport have started chasing a vehicle traveling near parked commercial airliners. He had crashed through the airport fence to get to it.

The chase continued as the vehicle drove towards the airport coast guard station. The suspect identified as Hamilton Moreno exited on foot, entered a Coast Guard C-130 plane and proceeded to the cockpit, where he was arrested, the sheriff’s office said.

The vehicle had previously been reported stolen in Tampa.

Hamilton Moreno faces a variety of charges including grand theft, flight and escape, burglary and criminal mischief. He could also face federal charges, according to the sheriff’s press release.
