DAYTONA BEACH SHORES, Fla .– A man in southwest Florida was arrested Thursday morning after apparently stealing an alligator from a tourist attraction.

William “Bubba” Hodge, 32, is accused of swinging the alligator and stepping on it.

Police saw Hodge walking down South Atlantic Avenue with the gator. The police saw him swing the animal by the tail before attempting to launch it from the top of a building.

Hodge admits to having jumped a fence to get to the Congo River Golf alligator enclosure and stealing the animal.

Police said he told them he was throwing the alligator, “to teach him a lesson.”

Officials said the alligator should be fine.
