The Florida Gators, No. 8, released their first official depth map of the 2019 season on Monday, before their confrontation with American rival Miami Hurricanes. Although there are no major surprises on the depth chart, it remains remarkable to see where head coach Dan Mullen has his players vying for the season on the verge of to start.
Although Mullen said Monday that the Gators would not miss the first match due to injury – other than those excluded from the season – he refused to give way to any suspensions announced. Mullen said the suspensions would be announced before the Florida-Miami match. As such, this depth map should be considered "ideal" as opposed to what UF will put on the field on Saturday.
Remarkable as always are the designations "OR". There is a staggering 15 on this depth card, including two at the tight end and three at the wide receiver, though the latter speaks of the incredible depth of the Gators at the position.
Many substitutes from 2018 entered beginner roles on the defensive side of the ball and the injuries clearly have the most difficult secondary depth. The four "OR" designations indicate that the backups are still being shaken by Mullen, defensive coordinator Todd Grantham and the rest of the staff.
Let's take a look at the complete picture of the depths before the first game of the season in Florida.
