Florida MP dies after being shot by ex-Marine

A Florida sheriff’s deputy died on Sunday – two days after being shot twice by a former Marine he arrested, authorities said.

Nassau deputy Joshua Moyers, 29, was shot in the face and back on Friday morning and medics said they did not expect him to survive his injuries.

A massive manhunt continued on Monday for suspected shooter Patrick McDowell, who is still at large and considered dangerous.

Police offer $ 54,000 for McDowell’s capture.

“It is with great sadness that I announce that Deputy Josh Moyers passed away this afternoon, September 26, 2021 at 2:19 pm at UF Health in Jacksonville,” Sheriff Bill Leeper posted on Twitter on Sunday.

“Please keep Josh’s family and fiancĂ© in your thoughts and prayers as we go through this terrible tragedy.”

Moyers, an assistant since 2015, stopped a stolen Chrysler SUV early Friday and asked the driver to exit the vehicle after giving the officer a false name, the Florida Times-Union reported.

The driver fired two shots before fleeing across the railroad tracks. A passenger in the Chrysler also fled but was found by lawmakers later, the Times-Union said.

McDowell, 35, allegedly shot a police dog on his trail, the newspaper previously reported.
