A Florida teenager who officials say killed his mother when he was 15 after an argument over his grades at school was sentenced to 45 years in prison on Friday.
Gregory Ramos, now 17, reportedly pleaded guilty to first degree murder last month in the strangulation death of Gail Cleavenger, 46, in 2018.
After killing her, he buried her under a fire pit at a nearby church and reported that she was missing after staging a bogus break-in at the house, authorities said, according to FOX 35 in Orlando.
Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood called Ramos one of the “three best sociopaths” he had met in his life shortly after his arrest, saying Ramos showed no remorse and bragged about having tried to cover up the murder.
Investigators said Ramos claimed it took his mother 30 minutes to die, according to WKMG-TV in Orlando.

“Watching how cold, callous and calculating he was, I think that was probably the most shocking thing for all of us,” Chitwood told WKMG. “No sign of remorse at all.”
Ramos was more contrite when he was sentenced.
“I refuse to make excuses for myself. I can only plead for forgiveness,” Ramos said in court, according to FOX 35. “Due to my actions, I never really know my mother. Not only did I steal my mother from myself, but also from everyone. “
He said he was there to “honor” his mother.
During sentencing, her aunt said the past two years had been “extremely difficult” for their family.
“It broke us in a way that I didn’t think could be broken,” she said, according to FOX 35.
His sentence can be reviewed by a judge after 25 years. Once released from prison, he will spend the rest of his life on probation.

Ramos could have faced life in prison because he was indicted as an adult, but his sentence was lightened by a plea deal, WKMG reported.

Two of Ramos’ friends, aged 17, have also been charged with aiding and abetting first degree murder.
