Flour sold at Walmart, the target country is recalled following concerns about E. Coli

NORWICH, Vt. – King Arthur Flour has been recalled for possible E. coli contamination.

According to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), King Arthur Flour announced Thursday that the company was voluntarily withdrawing 14,218 cases of King Arthur unbleached all-purpose flour due to E's potential presence. Coli.

The product has been distributed through retailers and distributors nationwide, including Target and Walmart stores.

"King Arthur was informed by ADM Milling Co. that wheat used to make these batches of King Arthur flour was linked to a continuing outbreak of E. coli infections," King Arthur said in a statement. "No disease has been reported to date in relation to King Arthur's flour."

The recalled flour has six specific batch codes and three "best date of use" dates. The dates and lot numbers are located at the bottom of the side panel under the Nutrition Facts panel. The dates and lots concerned are:

  • BEST USED FOR 12/07/19 LOT: L18A07C
  • BEST USED BY 12/08/19 LOTS: L18A08A, L18A08B
  • BEST USED BY 14/12/19 LOTS: L18A14A, L18A14B, L18A14C

Products sold on the King Arthur Flour website, the Baker's catalog or the Baker's Store in Norwich, Vermont, are not subject to the recall.

Customers can return the flour to local stores for credit or refund.

According to the FDA, E. coli often causes diarrheal disease with bloody stools. Most healthy adults can recover completely within a week, but some people may develop a form of kidney failure called Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome (HUS). HUS is most likely to occur in young children and the elderly. This condition can lead to severe kidney damage and even death.
