Floyd County Ends Chief Electoral Officer After State Audit Reveals Countless Votes

The Floyd County Board of Elections on Thursday voted to fire its executive director after election officials discovered hundreds of ballots had not been counted before the county’s initial certification.

The Secretary of State’s office first asked Floyd’s Chief Election Clerk Robert Brady to step down after officials discovered the votes not counted.

The board met for just over an hour Thursday afternoon in a special meeting, which resulted in Brady’s termination. Officials cited at least two reprimands Brady received in the past six months as the reason for his dismissal.

Election officials discovered about 2,600 votes that were not counted in the county total earlier this week during the statewide audit.

Election work ultimately had to re-analyze more than 8,000 ballots to get to the bottom of the problem.

Davis is happy the mistake was made and believes the board made the right decision in terminating Brady.

Republicans and Democrats agree that firing Brady was the right move, but they don’t believe the mistake was made on purpose.
