Flyers 5, Islanders 2: Another unbalanced victory allows to continue the playoffs

THE SCORE OF THE BOX

Once again, the Flyers brought a circular saw to Nassau.

Five different players scored as the Flyers were within five points of the second wild card after beating the Islanders 5-2 on Saturday night for their second win over New York in six days. (see ranking).

Here are my observations:

• In his first game after missing two games due to injury, Jakub Voracek had a very hectic first period, mostly positive. He was physical in the background separating Mathew Barzal from the puck. Voracek was also sentenced for a major five-minute intervention early in the third period, solely because Johnny Boychuk was seriously injured in the game. (see the story).

However, Voracek extended his shift in the first period, throwing a puck in the middle of the ice, creating a reversal with the Flyers' fourth row on the ice. The Islanders scored a goal on a redirected shot following Voracek's turnover.

But Voracek's strength lies in possession of the puck, leading into the offensive zone and leading to two goals for the Flyers.

The first took place in the last seconds of the first period, which allowed James van Riemsdyk to score a rebound in front of the fold.

Voracek's second assist allowed Sean Couturier to score a goal and a goal. For Voracek, he has eight assists in his last five games.

• Newcomer Ryan Hartman began by understanding that he was very inconsistent. He has shown a physical presence, but does not deliver on every shift.

He was sometimes badly positioned on the defensive, but his biggest responsibility was the high frequency for the penalty box. He was whistled for a totally unnecessary trigger penalty, but his first goal with the Flyers was a hard and tough game that the Flyers need to see more.

• Do not like karma? Remember when the whistle sounded early, preventing a goal in this critical match against the Penguins?

Well, Islanders now know that this potential goal was not to be with a premature whistle. It was the real chance for the Islanders to return to the 4-1 game at the end.

• Brian Elliott was great in a good game after a bad performance against the Capitals. It will be interesting to move forward to see who takes the lead against Ottawa who, despite his record, plays hard against his opponents. It does not seem like Acting Head Coach Scott Gordon will turn to Carter Hart for this game.

• What about these numbers:

The Flyers shot 60% in the second period with three goals on just five shots on goal.

And the Flyers now have three goals or more in seven consecutive games, their longest streak of the season. They averaged 4.3 goals in that period.

• I do not see how the Islanders managed to get out of the first round of the playoffs. In fact, I think the Flyers would provide a stronger first-round opponent than the Islands.

Impressively, four of the Flyers' first five goals came into transition while New York had gaping holes and terrible holes in its defense.
