Flyers set NHL record with eighth goalkeeper

NEWARK, N.J. – The Philadelphia Flyers set an NHL record when Cam Talbot became the eighth goalie to play for the team this season.

Talbot, who was acquired from Edmonton in mid-February for compatriot Anthony Stolarz, became number 8 on Friday night in a debut against the New Jersey Devils.

Brian Elliott, Carter Hart, Michal Neuvirth, Cal Pickard, Alex Lyon, Mike McKenna and Stolarz also scored for Philadelphia during a season in which the men between the two teams missed 107 games because ;a wound.

Three other teams shared the record with the Flyers: the Quebec Nordiques in 1989-90, the St. Louis Blues in 2002-03 and the Los Angeles Kings in 2007-08.

Acting Flyers head coach Scott Gordon was one of seven Nordic goalkeepers.
