Samsung’s big pitch for the Galaxy Z Fold3 and Flip3 seems to have been very successful. The company has confirmed that it has registered the most global pre-orders for new foldable phones, eclipsing sales of existing Galaxy Z models since the start of the year. Unofficial figures from South Korea can give us an idea of the true size of this pile.
The Korea Herald reports that the two new models racked up 450,000 carrier bookings on Sunday and could reach 600,000 by the end of the pre-order period in the country today. It is estimated that another 200,000 units without a SIM card have been claimed.
At a local operator, 49% of Fold3 bookings and 57% of Flip3 bookings are believed to come from customers aged 20 to 39 – much of the most critical demographics for consumption let alone smartphone upgrades.
For comparison, South Korean pre-orders for the new Galaxy Z models are 10 times stronger than the Galaxy Z Fold2, twice the Galaxy S21, and a 50% gain over the Note20.
The data is cited from local media interviews with anonymous industry sources.
When it comes to Android Police readership – most traffic typically coming from the United States – last week’s weekend poll indicates the Fold3 appears to be the most popular choice by a 12-7 margin. .
