AUSTIN, Texas – A small group of armed protesters gathered in Austin on Saturday, just days before President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration, as photos released by Getty Images show.

Supporters of President Trump are gathering in state capital buildings across the country this weekend to protest the presidential election results and Biden’s inauguration, which is slated for Wednesday.

The Texas State Capitol and the Capitol Grounds are currently closed “as a precaution” for several days before the inauguration, as announced Friday by the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The closure of the Capitol will last from Saturday January 15 to Wednesday January 20.

The Texas DPS said it was aware of armed protests planned on Capitol Hill this week and “violent extremists who may seek to exploit constitutionally protected events to carry out criminal acts.”

Additional DPS personnel and other resources will be stationed on Capitol Hill and the FBI and Austin Police will also assist in the response.

Anyone who witnesses suspicious activity online or in public is urged to contact the FBI, Austin Police or DPS at www.iWatchtx.org.
