Football star Lionel Messi tops Forbes list of highest paid athletes in the world

The money was counted and the results are convincing: the star of football, Lionel Messi, was ranked at the top of the list of the world's highest paid athletes of Forbes with gains of 127 million dollars.

The list published Tuesday contains 100 athletes and includes players from 10 different sports and from more than two dozen countries, depending on the point of sale. From June 2018 to June 2019, athletes accumulated "$ 4 billion in combined earnings from cash prizes, salaries and endorsements," said Forbes.

Football players dominated the top three spots on the Forbes list, with Cristiano Ronaldo placing No. 2 at $ 109 million and Neymar third at $ 105 million.

Athletes who play professionally in the United States, such as NFL quarterbacks Russell Wilson and Aaron Rodgers, complete half of the top 10 points of sale. Claiming spots 6 and 7, the men earned $ 89.5 million and $ 89.3 million, respectively, according to Forbes.

NBA stars LeBron James, with $ 89 million, Stephen Curry with $ 79.8 million, and Kevin Durant with $ 65.4 million followed.

Curry and Durant both play for the Golden State Warriors, which compete with the Toronto Raptors in this year's NBA finals.

Golf star Tiger Woods, who won 11th place with $ 63.9 million in prize money, and MMA fighter Conor McGregor, ranked 21st with $ 47 million, were also mentioned. McGregor announced in March that he was retiring from the sport.
