The study of space physics is certainly useful when wrestling with vending machines.
NASA Johnson Space Center fictional director Margo Madison (Wrenn Schmidt) uses this knowledge to help a young employee in this week’s episode of “For all mankind, “aired on Friday April 2 on Apple TV +.
This preview clip of Apple TV + shows Madison watching Aleida Rosales (Coral Peña) shake a vending machine to no avail, after buying a snack during a late-night work session.

“Try some negative pressure,” suggests Madison.
Rosales flips the lid of the tray several times and watches the bag successfully fall to her hand. “Nice tip,” she said, holding up the snack in a gesture of thanks.
The clip then includes a spoiler for a diplomatic situation that NASA faced in this alternate 1980s space program story.
We won’t divulge what’s going on except to say that Madison invites Rosales to her office to share a drink and discuss the progress. Rosales, who is very junior and new to the agency, hesitates until Madison presses her. “Come on! Before I change my mind.”
