With the launch of the PS5 and Xbox Series X, it was always going to be difficult for the Nintendo Switch to hold onto the top spot in the UK this month – but, given that the console was only ousted by this high position. twice over the past couple of years there was a feeling that maybe the switch could pull it.

Unfortunately, this was not the case; back in November, Sony’s PS5 was king – but that doesn’t mean Nintendo has anything to be dark – quite the opposite, in fact.

Over the past month, 900,000 game consoles were sold in the UK (thanks, GamesIndustry.biz), making it the eighth largest month for console sales (not counting handhelds) and the second for console revenue (after December 2013). , when the demand for the PS4 and Xbox One was very high).

With the release of the PS5 in the lead, Switch has only been pushed to second on the UK charts for the third time in the past 24 months, but Switch hardware sales have nonetheless jumped 96% in the past four. weeks prior, thanks in large part to Black Friday and continued demand for Nintendo’s hybrid console. So far this year, Switch hardware sales in the UK have grown 63.1% year-on-year.

That’s good news when it comes to games too, with Switch software accounting for nearly 35% of the 2.38 million games sold in the four-week period ending November 28. Nintendo was also the most successful publisher in November, with titles like Animal Crossing: New horizons, Super Mario 3D All-Stars and the evergreen foliage Mario Kart 8 Deluxe helping him beat Ubisoft to the top spot.

So while it’s a shame the Switch isn’t the best-selling console in the UK in November, that’s not bad news – and, given the PS5 and X-Series shortage, we imagine that normal service will resume fairly quickly. .
