Is it too early to call the time on the screen of the smartphone? May be. Companies are increasingly looking for innovative workarounds, such as the punch screen now favored by Huawei's Honor and Samsung.. And now, Nokia – or, at least, the resurrected form of Nokia – gets into action with the tempting Nokia X71.
The Nokia X71 is a bit of a ranger. The high-performance Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 platform is at the heart of its concerns. This chipset is also present on other similarly priced devices, such as the BlackBerry Key2 and the Redmi Note 7.
The Snapdragon 660 is energy efficient. Since the Nokia X71 is a handset with a full 6.39-inch FHD + display, you'll need everything you can get. Fortunately, this handset comes with a wonderful battery of 3500 mAh. It also comes with Android 9 Pie, along with several energy-saving software optimizations.
Apart from that, it comes with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of expandable storage. Since the phone comes with a 48 MPa rear-facing camera, it's convenient. From my experience with Honor View20, these images often measure up to 5 MB each. If you take a lot of pictures or 4K videos, you can quickly find yourself facing the limits of the internal memory of your phone.
Speaking of the camera, this is a three-shot configuration. As can be expected from Nokiahe uses Karl Zeiss certified lenses. Nokia and Zeiss have been together longer than Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip.
To say that the Nokia X71 has similarities with the recent Honor Honor20 would be a euphemism. For starters, the placement of the front camera is virtually identical. Both phones also come with a headphone jack (a rarity in 2019, though still welcome) and a 48 MP camera sensor.
Where the upcoming Nokia X71 inches is in the price. The retail price of 11 900 Taiwan dollars (about 385 $ / 345 €) is an absolute boon. As far as I know, it's also the lowest-cost punch phone on the market right now.
Although the 48MP cameras are proliferating like crazy at the moment (the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 at 150 USD is the proof), it is rather rare to see one in a configuration with three cameras. It's certainly interesting.
The handset is already available in Taiwan. According to GSM Arena, this phone will be marketed under the name of Nokia 8.1 Plus and could be marketed in the West as early as next week. Keep an eye on it!
