Ford recalls nearly 340,000 2017 Ford Explorer models equipped with electric seats "that may have sharply edged seat frames," following reports of dozens of people cutting their hands.
In a statement on Friday, Sept. 13, Ford announced that 338,332 Explorers would be recalled, noting that the company "was aware of 31 reports of hand injuries attributed to this condition".
"Customers could come into contact with the sharp edges by passing between the power adjustable front seat and the center console, posing a risk of injury."
The builder said the seats had a poorly drilled seat frame edge leaving a sharp point. Drivers and passengers may come into contact with the cutting edge by interposing between the power seat and the center console.
Ford said that customers should "be careful and avoid contact with the edge of the seat frame until the repair is complete." the problem.
All recallable vehicles were built at Ford's assembly plant in Chicago between February 13, 2016 and October 25, 2017.
