On the V8. Over the past decade, Ford has relaunched the iconic California Special Mustang as a tribute to the original package developed with Shelby American in 1968. Today, for the first time, Ford is adding the optional GT Performance package for Cali-spec ‘ d cars.
The California Special package is already available for the 2021 model year Mustang, which means many of its visual additions won’t surprise seasoned pony fans. Unique 19-inch five-spoke wheels, a special honeycomb grille and heritage-inspired graphics immediately identify a California Special. Buyers who go for the GT package get a bit more dynamism thanks to a larger front splitter and performance rear spoiler.
While this is more than just a look set, it doesn’t add more ponies to the already generous 460 horsepower 5.0-liter V8 under the hood. suspension work and stability.
To tighten the car in the corners, Ford gave it a lower ride height with a stiffer spring rate. Additional stiffness has been added with a K-brace, subframe v-brace, strut tour brace and a tubular rear stabilizer bar. Additional grip is provided by the Torsen limited-slip differential and the car’s unique stability control tuning. Finally, six-gun Brembo calipers nestle behind the 19×9-inch front wheels for extra stopping power, while a slightly wider 19×9.5 rear setup completes the quirky muscle car look.
