Ford recalled 270,000 Ford Fusions due to a potential shift problem that could drive cars even if they were parked.

The problem is due to the gear selector cable ring that could degrade and detach from the vehicle transmission.

"This condition could allow the driver to move the shift lever to the parking lot and remove the ignition key while the transmission might not be parked without a warning message or sound chime," he said. Ford in a statement. "If the parking brake is not tight, a shifter cable that detaches from the transmission may cause the vehicle to move unexpectedly, increasing the risk of injury or an accident."

Mergers who are affected by the recall will be instructed to always use their parking brake and will be notified when a "last resort" will be available because "the root cause and the final repair of the service are being confirmed" , said Ford.

The automaker stated that it had been informed of three reports of material damage and an injury possibly related to the defective part.

The affected vehicles include Fusion vehicles from 2013 to 2013 equipped with an 18 to 20 year old Fusion engine not included in the original safety booster built at the Flat assembly plant. Rock from April 12, 2013 to February 29, 2016 and at the Hermosillo assembly plant from February 9, 2012 to April 4, 2016, said Ford.

Last year, Ford recalled 550,000 Mergers from 2013 to 2016 and the small SUV Escape from 2013 to 2014 for the same problem, but for another cause.

The 2018 recall concerned cars with multiple engines, including the 2.5-liter.

Earlier this year, Ford recalled nearly a million cars due to airbag failure.
