DEARBORN, MI – Ford Motor Company has recalled the 2017 Ford Explorers that may have sharp-edged seats.

The recall on Friday involved 311,907 vehicles in the United States and federal territories, 23,380 in Canada and 3,045 in Mexico.

The manufacturer stated that it is aware of 31 cases of hand injuries attributable to the defect.

The vehicles concerned are equipped with electric seats with a poorly drilled seat frame edge. Customers may encounter sharp edges if they step between the power adjustable front seat and center console, posing a risk of injury.

The affected vehicles were built at the Chicago assembly plant from February 13 to October 25, 2017.

Ford dealers will install flocked tape on the exposed edge and a tab on the inside of the seat frames.

We advise customers to be careful and to avoid contact with the edge of the seat frame until the repair is completed.
