Forecasts: our forecast too early for Ryan Day, Ohio State's 2020 hiring class

Ryan Day begins preparations for the Ohio State's 2020 recruiting class, as the Buckeyes attempt to pull themselves together at all levels. Six commitments are at the rendezvous, the five-star Paris Johnson Jr plater being the cornerstone of the class. We expect a signing day between 23 and 25 new prospects. So there is a lot of work to be done over the next few months.

The class was hit with his third disengagement when Darvon Hubbard canceled his engagement this week. We had been talking about it for a while and so the news was far from unexpected. The four-star back has joined Lejond Cavozos and Jake Wray as others disused in 2020.

We are in 10 months from the beginning of the signing period and nearly a year since the day of signing, but the moment is still just as propitious to get started quickly in promoting the 2020 promotion.

Strategist

Miller has been in the group since last summer and he has become one of the leading recruiters in the state of Ohio. As the 3rd professional smuggler and 63rd prospector in the country, he has worked particularly hard with several leading targets in the state of Arizona. The Buckeyes could still add a transfer of graduates before the 2019 season and Ryan Day could also look for another to complete Miller, but we just had the Scottsdale star on the list.

The state of Ohio needs two real backs in 2020. Robinson fits that mold perfectly and he is one of America's best. Berger is no longer a versatile athlete who could play a number of places, including wide or defensive backs. Athlete

Drennen is a talented kid from the area who could play as a running back at the next level. The Buckeyes are considering different options for the role of H-Back, but for now, we have invited the Dublin Coffman star to enter the 2020 category. Michigan and Notre Dame are also serious competitors.

Wide receiver

Brian Hartline already has a strong duo in place in Gee Scott Jr. and Jaxon Smith-Njigba, four stars, but the Buckeyes are probably four or five. Hartline has the state of Ohio at the top of the country's top underdog list. We are now going with Rakim Jarrett of Washington D.C. and Marcus Rosemy of Fort Lauderdale to complete the puzzle.

Tight end

This position is quite in the air and it does not seem that anyone is particularly on the point of making known his intentions. The Ohio State offered the Californian band Mark Redman last month because his three-star family is in Buckeye State and is already planning a trip to Columbus in March. He has our vote for the moment, but his crystal ball favors the Huskies and this one is far from being a slam dunk. I also kept a close watch on a potential supply downstream from Luke Lachey of Grandview Heights.

Offensive line

Ryan Day and Greg Studrawa have made a fantastic start in the trenches, which is certainly positive, as it is probably the most important position for the 2020 class. We have five in our forecast for the year. moment, but it would not be surprising that the Buckeyes sign six future contracts this cycle.

It is essential to attack at least two offensive attacks, and I imagine that three will be the preferred number. Paris Johnson is a pure tackle and it is one of the best in the country. The ultimate position of Jakob James is probably more in the air while Luke Wypler is a guy from the inside.

Let's go with the Colorado strikers, Reece Atteberry, and Kentucky's John Young, to fix the problem for now. Atteberry seems pretty likely at this point, while Young will be a major asset to the Wildcats. There will inevitably be developments at the end of the cycle and a player similar to Dawand Jones, who signed in 2019, could also find his place in 2020.

Defensive line

Ohio State is sitting well on both the defensive and the defensive tackles, and the 2020 board is not about to meet. The only thing that is hard to deny, is that Darrion Henry is the main target of the defense line of the staff. probably alongside the country's No. 1 prospect, Bryan Bresee. We absolutely have Henry as IN for the Buckeyes and at 6-foot-6 and 260-pound (while continuing to grow) he could become the only signatory of the tackle despite his defense classification.

His teammate, Henry, Jaheim Thomas, has not yet secured an offer for the Ohio State, but I hope this will change in the coming months. He is listed as an outside linebacker but is a person who could very well become a defensive end. We expect the duo to end up in Columbus.

The defensive line will probably end with three or four signatories, but Tre Williams' commitment to Clemson means that the dashboard is much harder to read. We are going to accompany Henry as the interior manager and Thomas as an edge defender for the moment, as it is perhaps the most difficult group of positions to project at the moment.

linebacker

The state of Ohio could count on one of the best American players among the five-star linebacker Washington DC, Mekhail Sherman. He still studies a number of schools, but the Buckeyes will play a major role until he decides. Akron's athlete, DeaMonte Trayanum, could end up at the second level as second or linebacker, but for the moment, he's seconded to Columbus.

Defensive back

Lejond Cavazos' father has serious ties to Urban Meyer, but it's now up to Ryan Day and Jeff Hafley to get back on track. The Texas native was electric at the Miami regional event last week and signed his ticket for the final. Day and Hafley have a lot of work to do, but I think it's something that can be accomplished.

Henry Gray left Miami in December and this will probably be a typical Southern Florida hunt. Ohio State is at the heart of the action with Clemson, but we have gray pencil. Next month's trip to Columbus will be important and it will be an interesting recruitment to follow.

This preliminary forecast sets the total to 22 signatories, and while this is certainly a realistic figure, the class could approach 25. The Ohio State could certainly choose to take another quarter in addition to Miller, but I do not I'm not 100% sure it's necessary. There is a need for 2019, but a room for 2020 with Justin Fields, Matthew Baldwin and Jack Miller would be pretty solid. Offensive line, wide receiver and cornerback are three of the most pressing needs. It is therefore reasonable to expect Day and Co. to fill up at these locations.

Here is an old and big #SpoilerAlert: this projection is not going to be completely exact. There are so many things to reveal and so many offers to offer. The class calculator shows that this operation would give the Buckeyes a mark of 314.12, which would have been enough to rank in the top three of each of the last three cycles.
