BOISE, Idaho (AP) – A former governorship candidate from Idaho said he was being investigated following the 1984 assassination of 39, a 12-year-old girl from Colorado.

Steve Pankey, candidate for governorship for the Constitution Party in 2014 and Republican at the 2018 primary, told the Statesman of Idaho that he was the subject of a Investigation into the death of Jonelle Matthews, a daughter of Greeley who reportedly disappeared 20, 1984.

Pankey says that he spoke to the newspaper because he wants to be transparent. He entrusted his DNA to the police and offered him a polygraph test. He was shocked when authorities raided his home in Twin Falls, Idaho, last week.

The remains of Matthews were discovered by a construction crew earlier this summer in rural Weld County, Colorado.
