Former Clemson LB Mike Jones Jr. announces transfer to LSU

Clemson linebacker Mike Jones Jr., who started seven games last season, is transferred to LSU, he ad Wednesday.

Jones, who has three years of eligibility, recorded 30 tackles, including four for loss, and had two interceptions and one forced fumble in 10 games for Clemson last fall. The 6-foot, 220-pound Jones also had four tackles for the loss and 19 total saves at Clemson in 2019, appearing in all 15 games as the Tigers reached the national title game before falling to LSU. He entered the NCAA transfer portal on January 25 as a graduate transfer.

Hailing from Lebanon, Tennessee, Jones ranked 10th outside linebacker in ESPN and 208 rookie overall in the 2018 class. He appeared in three games that fall for Clemson before redshirting the season.

LSU lost linebacker Jabril Cox while firing Damone Clark, who was tied for the team lead in tackles. The Tigers have recruited a new defensive coordinator from Daronte Jones and a new linebacker coach from Blake Baker, a former defensive coordinator in Miami.
