CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – A former Monticello youth basketball coach was sentenced to 180 years in prison by a federal judge.

Greg Stephen, 43, participated in the creation of Iowa Barnstormers, a traveling program aimed at the youngest state-sponsored players Adidas.

Stephen pleaded guilty to several counts of child sexual exploitation and pornography after investigators found photos or a video of 440 different boys.

He was jailed in March 2018 after his former brother-in-law found a recording device hidden in Stephen's house in Monticello.

His defense team asked Stephen to be sentenced only to 20 years in prison because nothing more would be too harsh. Prosecutors said Stephen was a child molester "on the job" and had used the program as a means to build up a "steady stream of casualties".

180 years in prison is the maximum sentence incurred by Stephen.
