BEXAR COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) – A former deputy from Bexar County was arrested on Thursday for "official oppression" following an indictment on four counts, according to the Bexar County Sheriff's Office.

Former 31-year-old MP Raul Maciel Gonzales has been charged with official oppression, violation of civil rights, aggravated assault and organized crime.

Gonzales was arrested at 7:17 pm Thursday night, from a joint effort of sheriff Javier Salazar of Bexar County and the Fugitive Arrest Unit.

Gonzales was fired from his role in the sheriff's office in June 2017 after apparently allowing access to detainees, which would have resulted in acts of violence.

"I remain determined to hold public servants accountable if they decide to abuse their powers," said Salazar. I am proud to have a solid working relationship with the District Attorney's Office in Bexar. I salute the work of the district attorney's office in this case. "
