Former Georgia GOP Senator Suffers Mild Stroke: Report

A spokeswoman for Chambliss’ family, Lauren Claffey Tomlinson, released a statement saying the former senator “is doing fine,” according to an Atlanta Journal-Constitution report.

“On Tuesday, Senator Chambliss suffered from a minor stroke and was quickly admitted to Grady Hospital for treatment. He receives excellent care at the renowned Marcus Stroke and Neuroscience Center, ”said Tomlinson.

The spokesperson added: “He is fine, resting comfortably and looking forward to a full recovery. Saxby and his wife Julianne thank everyone for their good wishes and prayers during this time.”

Chambliss, 77, was a member of the United States House from 1995 to 2003 before representing Georgia in the Senate from 2002 to 2015.

His successor in the Senate is the Senator. Perdue released a statement on the former senator, saying he and his wife Bonnie “are praying for Saxby Chambliss,” local CBS affiliate WMAZ reported.

“He and his wife Julianne have been very dear friends to us and are true officials for the Georgian people. We wish Saxby a speedy recovery and keep his whole family in our thoughts and prayers,” Perdue added.
