Focusing largely on her then-recent marriage, the album was well received by critics –we gave him a A– but less praised by the fans, who saw a cheerful, optimistic concept album where they expected the culmination of a meteoric artistic rise. This perception of fault was not helped by the subsequent cancellation – after only 5 dates – of the tour supporting the album. The reason given was a desire for the rapper (whose birth name is Chancelor Bennett) spend more time with his new family –but the decision couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow as to whether The big day was exciting enough for drive people to buy tickets.

Now a new trial claims to explain some of the issues raised by The big day, while the rapper’s former manager, Pat Corcoran, just sued him for $ 3 million for the money he claims due in relation to the release of the album. Through Variety, Corcoran’s costume reads, “The procrastination and leisurely effort perpetuated by various hangers not interested in the hard work of writing and recording resulted in a sub-par quality product with a freestyle focus, ”adding that The big day was a complete departure from the meticulous writing process for which Bennett is famous.

Corcoran is basically accusing Chance of making him a scapegoat for the album’s failures, sacking him in April 2020, and handing over his management duties to his father and brother. Through Variety, Corcoran claims he owes him $ 3 million in “unpaid commissions on revenue from touring, streaming, album sales and merchandise, ”and says BennetYour father tried to offer her a lump sum of $ 350,000 in exchange for his services.

Among other things, Corcoran’s lawsuit claims he played a key role in establishing the independent path for Chance’s career, which avoided major representation of the label in favor of self-published titles. The costume follows their long history together, before switching to a claim that The big day was “lackluster”, and that “Bennett ultimately blamed Corcoran for the judgment rendered by his fans, rather than accept that his own lack of dedication had doomed the project.
