A former Minneapolis police officer pleaded not guilty Friday following the shooting death in 2017 of an unarmed Australian.
Mohamed Noor, aged 33, appeared in court and stated that he was not guilty of the counts of second degree murder, third degree murder and manslaughter on the second degree for the shooting of Justine Ruszczyk Damond, 40 years old. former life coach.
Damond called 911 to report a possible sexual assault behind her home. Noor and his partner, Matthew Harrity, who was driving, responded and Damon was shot as she approached the vehicle agents.
The case was dragged due to battles over the evidence to be allowed at trial.
The prosecutors had wanted to use Noor's refusal to speak to the investigators against him. Judge Kathryn Quaintance, however, ruled for the defense Friday, citing the protection of an accused against self-incrimination.
The trial must begin on April 1 st. Noor was fired after being charged.
